Last weekend St. Joseph came to St. Andrew and spoke with us in the parish hall! Of course, it was an actor, Michael Sacilowski, playing the part of St. Joseph. We were reminded that the coming of Jesus Christ into our world was the most important event in history. It was good to hear from St. Joseph that the hard work and difficulties he endured were all necessary parts of making that happen. It was good to hear that the challenges we face in or lives can be managed when we keep our focus on the good we are accomplishing when working to accomplish God's plan. Our Gospel reading this weekend tells of the difficulties involved in doing just that. But it also tells of the reward of eternity in heaven when we do.
Pope Francis proclaimed this the year of St. Joseph in our Church. The challenges we face, the difficulties we endure, we accept them as our part in bringing Christ into the world. Our kindness and love shown to others make Jesus real in our world today. Our listening and compassionate response to those who are victims can bring the presence of Christ and peace.
As Michael Sacilowski (and his daughter Mary) portray St. Joseph throughout all of Western New York, they dedicate their time, talents, challenges, and difficulties to help others bring Christ into our world. May we be inspired by them and live each day with joy in knowing the importance of our actions in carrying out God's plan.
God's Peace,
Deacon Dave
