When we hold palms in our hands this Sunday, we are welcoming Jesus Christ. The palms are a symbol of those used to welcome him into Jerusalem. We hold the palms, and later bring them into our homes, to demonstrate our love for him and for all of his teachings. The palms remind us of how we stand with Jesus in his dying on Good Friday and rising on Easter Sunday. Of how, because of this, when we die, our lives are changed and not ended; that we have the opportunity to live forever with Jesus Christ in Heaven!
During this Holy Week before Easter, let the palms remind you to attend and participate in the events of the week. Please be a part of the Reconciliation service on Monday (Confessions), the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Thursday, Divine Mercy Novena and Stations of the Cross and the Passion and Death of Our Lord on Good Friday, blessing of food on Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil Mass that evening, and Mass on Easter Sunday.
