Click here to view this week's Mass. The video for the 4 PM vigil Mass will be available by about 7 PM on Saturday.
A man is overweight, so his doctor puts him on a diet. "I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and repeat the procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least five pounds." When the man returns, he's lost nearly 20 pounds. "Wow, that's amazing!" the doctor says. "Did you follow my instructions?"
The man nods ... then says, "I'll tell you, I'd thought I was going to drop dead that third day."
"From hunger, you mean?" said the doctor. "No, from skipping," replied the man.
It is important to listen and to act on what we hear. But, of course, it is just as important that we take the time to fully understand what we have heard. In our Gospel this weekend many heard but did not understand Jesus' message. Peter, however, does! He lets Jesus know that he fully understands that Jesus is "The Christ," the Son of God.
This week, for seven days in a row, may each of us start the day thinking about how our having heard that message changes how we live. And don't worry. If you forget one, it is ok to skip a day.
God's Peace,
Deacon Dave
