Click here to view this week's Mass. The video for the 4 PM vigil Mass will be available by about 7 PM on Saturday.
I mentioned last weekend that Pope Francis has called for a Worldwide Synod. I wanted to mention it here to make sure that everyone receives the word since this matters a great deal!
What is a Synod? The word synod means "to journey together." A synod is the Church listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Pope Francis, bishops, priests, deacons, and all of us Catholics are involved.
According to the Pope's statement, "The purpose of the Synod, and therefore of this consultation, is not to produce documents, but "to plant dreams, draw forth prophecies and visions, allow hope to be nourished, inspire trust, bind up wounds, weave together relationships, awaken a dawn of hope, learn from one another, and create a bright resourcefulness that will enlighten minds, warm hearts, give strength to our hands.""
Wow, to be able to accomplish all of this within the Church and the world will be a wonderful thing! And I believe that with the aid of the Holy Spirit, all of this is possible. The Synod will go on for two to three years!
I attended Mass at St. Joseph's Cathedral with Bishop Michael last Sunday afternoon when our diocese began participation in this Worldwide Synod. You will be hearing more on this in the future. Your opinions and suggestions will be a very important part of this.
Our Polka Mass and Polish Platter Dinner last weekend were a great success! Ted Szymanski and his band, Special Delivery, added spirit to our Mass. You know, in Sacred Scripture the Psalmists talk about how we are to praise God. They describe using "clashing cymbals," "playing on the ten-string harp," and having "blasts of trumpets." This really sounds more like a polka band than a church organ! And we certainly did praise God with blasts of trumpets on Sunday!
Tina Jendrysiak and the team prepared and served a delicious Polish dinner for over one hundred fifty people! It was fun to get together with so many and enjoy great food and conversation! Thanks to all who helped in the kitchen and thanks to all who supported this fun fundraiser by purchasing a dinner!
Pray for the continued success of St. Andrew, and for the entire Catholic Church as we begin the World Wide Synod.
God's Peace,
Deacon Dave
